There are certain machine parts and components that are not easy to manufacture. The highly specific shapes and custom designs required to properly fit into a machine make it virtually impossible to manufacture such components using conventional manufacturing processes. For instance, X-ray housing machines generally consist of many intricate components that are created with maximum precision. So how exactly are these components made? That’s where we come in.
At Gasser, we believe in providing innovative solutions in order to streamline the manufacturing process. Our deep drawing process is designed for custom and lead production services for use in high-end machinery. The deep drawing process is one of our specialties, and is one of the main reasons we are able to create such high-precision parts that are as accurate as possible. Here’s how the process works.
Deep Drawing – How Does It Work?
The process begins with a standard sheet of metal. Using hydraulic presses, the sheet of metal is formed into a cup-shaped die. We use high-precision dies and presses which continue to get narrower and deeper as more pressure is applied, until the desired depth and cup of the diameter is reached. While this may seem pretty straightforward, it’s actually quite complicated. A series of minor calculations are integrated in order to make sure the whole thing goes off as smoothly as possible.
After the die has been pressed into the required shape and cut, the deep drawing process transitions into its secondary phase. This involves high-end machining in order to create a final component. One of the main reasons so many companies now prefer using deep drawn components is because they offer a significant cost benefit. That’s because the raw material used for the process is roughly the same weight and size as the final part. Therefore, the amount of wasted scrap is virtually negligible.
